Zadar

A walled old town on a stubby peninsula, more lived-in and less mobbed than Split or Dubrovnik. Roman ruins, a Sea Organ that plays the waves, and the best swimming a short walk past the obvious city beach. Not a beach-first city — its good water is either a walk or a boat ride away.

Getting there
Bus from Split (~3h, ~€13) or Zagreb (~3.5h). Zadar airport is 12km out; shuttle into town is ~€4.
